What to do if your Plans are Uninspiring?

It can be disheartening when your tasks or plans become uninspiring.  I was recently tasked with creating a list of interventions and resources for school principals. A plain PDF. Needless to say, I was uninspired. But I didn't give up! And you shouldn’t either. There are ways to keep going and find inspiration for your plans. 

Here are 5 tips to help you get started:

1. Think about why you wanted to do this in the first place. Remind yourself of the end goal and the passion that motivated you in the first place. For me, I had to realize the importance of the task at hand. My principals needed useful resources that would help their students. 
2. Talk to someone about your plans. A conversation with a friend or mentor can help give you a new perspective and help reignite your motivation. By holding a focus group with my principals I was able to hear directly from them the urgency of this need. 
3. Try something new. Taking a class, reading an inspiring book, or doing something completely unrelated to your plans can help spark new ideas and keep you energized. I find inspiration all around me. I love to incorporate the latest and greatest techniques in all of my plans. I was able to take my list from a plain PDF to a digital hyper-doc where principals could access their interventions and resources with a simple click. 
4. Reach out for help. Asking for advice or help from a colleague or an expert in your field can be a great way to get an outside perspective and to receive the support you need. There are several colleagues and experts who have been where you are. Look for a non-evaluative thought partner who can help you reinvigorate your plans. 
5. Celebrate successes, no matter how small. It's important to recognize your accomplishments and to celebrate the progress you are making. This was the most important step I took. I was able to celebrate every little step along the way. ☑️Focus group. ☑️Resources compiled.☑️Hyper-doc created. 

By following these tips and staying optimistic, I was able to get back on track to achieving my plans and goals, and you can too!
